Indian Film music
Hindi film industry, also renowned as Bollywood produces thousands of movies every year. One of the most common features of these movies is 'Song and Dance' sequences. Not only Hindi movies but all regional movies also have songs as their integral part. These songs and dance scenes are quite elaborate and lavishly filmed.
Hindi songs are basically related to Bollywood or Indian film songs. The retro styles of the classical era were very evolving. Everything from arrangement, rendition and recording was about simplicity. Folk music was the base in the cinema though in parallel there were great borrowings from the classical Hindustani gharanas. The thumri, ghazal, devotional songs and the geet are different forms of Hindi songs.
India has produced many great singers and musicians who have attained worldwide fame. Few notable musical talents India produced are K L Sehgal, Kishore Kumar, Khaiyyam, Mohd. Rafi, R D Burman, Lata Mangeshkar, S D Burman, Asha Bhonsle, and A R Rehman amongst others. Indian songs' popularity has attracted many talents from all over the country and even from across the border. Indian songs can be credited for bringing out oodles of talents in different roles; such as singers, lyricists, music directors, composers etc. All these movie songs are released as cassettes and CDs. During the earlier eras radio was the chief instrument used for playing music but with the advent of FM and Cable TV things have changed so much. This phenomenon has further helped in making these songs popular.
